Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is the aesthetic intervention performed on the nose, with the aim of remodelling it and correcting irregularities that may be inherited, post-traumatic or the result of ageing.
The nose is a complex structure whose component parts fit together perfectly, built on a cartilaginous skeleton, covered by skin on the outside and mucosa on the inside. The more complex the structure, the greater the precision of the surgeon must be.
As a rule, rhinoplasty is performed alone, but it is not contraindicated to perform it in the same session with other interventions, such as genioplasty (chin correction). The psychological impact of rhinoplasty is significant, so before the intervention there will be several meetings between the patient and the surgeon so that the patient's expectations are understood and discussed. The objective of the operation is to obtain a natural, harmonious result, in harmony with the patient's face and personality.
Rhinoplasty results
The final result depends mainly on the quality of the skin, as the skin is initially lifted and will then clothe the modified osteocartilaginous skeleton. Incisions are frequently placed inside the nostrils; sometimes a discreet scar will be visible at the columella or in the groove at the nose–cheek junction. Rhinoplasty can correct a nose that is too wide, too curved, can correct a lateral deviation, can refine the appearance of the tip, can shorten a nose that is too long.
Rhinoplasty is a delicate intervention that requires pre-anaesthetic evaluation and must be performed by a qualified plastic surgeon. Day surgery or a 24-hour admission may be required. The duration of the procedure varies between 45 minutes and one hour. Normal daily routine can be resumed 10–20 days postoperatively, and the final result can be evaluated 12 months after the intervention.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty
For minor defects, correction is possible by injecting dense fillers. Unlike surgical rhinoplasty, results are not permanent and injection must be repeated every 18–24 months. In other cases, injection of botulinum toxin can make minor corrections, but this too must be repeated annually.
