Nose surgery for men

Nose surgery for men

Surgical correction of the nose is a difficult decision for a man, who will consider this possibility after carefully weighing the perceived defect.

A man consults the plastic surgeon for a series of classic defects: a hump, lateral deviation, a nose that is too large or too wide, but whatever the defect, it is important to understand the exact reason why surgical intervention is requested.

After a thorough evaluation and facial analysis, the correction plan will be discussed with the patient. The goal of the intervention is to produce a change in a precise and delicate manner, respecting the patient's personality. It is important that the patient and surgeon reach a consensus on the proposed plan and work together to achieve the most natural postoperative result.

The intervention is performed in the operating room, under general anaesthesia, with 24-hour hospitalisation. Rhinoplasty in men is an extensive intervention, but sometimes the desired changes can be obtained by injecting hyaluronic acid. Unlike surgical correction, results after injection are non-permanent and require regular re-injection.

Frequently asked questions

Rhinoplasty is a surgical intervention performed on the nose, aiming to model the cartilages and soft tissues at this level, with the goal of achieving a certain shape. Rhinoplasty allows correction of size, deviation or shape.
The intervention is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts two to three hours, depending on the size and number of defects to be corrected. There are two possible approaches: closed rhinoplasty, with incisions placed inside the nostrils, or open rhinoplasty, with an incision at the columella level, used especially for complex cases.
The patient can resume training at a minimum of one month postoperatively. Contact sports with high risk of dislocation are not recommended earlier than six to twelve months.
It is not advisable to wear glasses regularly for at least 3 months postoperatively. If wearing glasses is indispensable, then the lightest possible glasses with the least impact on the nose are necessary.
It is important to wait until growth is complete before performing rhinoplasty, usually this happens around 17 years in girls and 18 years in men.
The patient will have an intranasal dressing for the first 24 hours, then an external splint for another 6-8 days, during which period social interactions are best avoided. Final results cannot be evaluated earlier than 3 months.
