Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty can be performed for the upper or lower eyelids, separately, or all four can be operated on in the same intervention.

The position of the eyebrows and the appearance of the forehead must be considered; sometimes the association of a brow lift or other rejuvenation procedures for the upper third of the face is recommended.

Before blepharoplasty

Before blepharoplasty, an ophthalmological examination is recommended to exclude pathological conditions of the eyelid, a set of laboratory tests and a pre-anaesthetic examination. The intervention can be performed under general or local anaesthesia as day surgery. The procedure lasts one to two hours, and final results can be appreciated at 3–6 months.

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty

Ageing has a major effect on the thin and delicate skin of the eyelids. The excess skin becomes visible and hangs inelegantly to or over the lash line, creating the feeling of tired eyes. The shape of the eye can be restored surgically by removing excess skin and redesigning the supratarsal groove. The result is a fresh, rested and more youthful appearance of the eyes.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty

The presence of under-eye bags is bothersome both due to progressive growth and association with grooves and wrinkles. The surgeon's goal is to remove wrinkles and restore lost volume, so that the tired look is replaced by an attractive and youthful one.

Frequently asked questions

For the upper eyelid, the scar is located in the supratarsal groove. In about 6 months the colour fades from pink to white and becomes very discreet. For the lower eyelid the scar is located in the immediate vicinity of the eyelashes, almost imperceptible, or, if the approach is transconjunctival, there is no scar on the skin.
Depending on the number of eyelids treated and the type of anaesthesia used, the intervention can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours. As a rule, the patient can go home on the same day.
The ageing process is different from individual to individual. Frequent weight losses and lifestyle can make a person look aged at 35, while others may not need blepharoplasty even at 65.
